Week 2 of Daybooking

January 24, 2011

Outside my window...again it is night time. While I have computer time during the day, it is sporadic and the bulk of my time is after the kids are in their pjs and under their comforters fast asleep. It was warm and bright and sunny for most of today, but turned cooler and grayer this evening. Rain is coming and cooler temperatures.

I am thinking...how to organize myself and our home. Does everything have to be organized down to the last detail or can things run smoothly in a less ordered home? The thought of planning down to the minute makes me feel claustrophobic.

I am thankful for...the day coming to an end. It wasn't a bad day, but if you read my Facebook status this evening you'd know what a haphazard day it's been. This, by the way, has nothing to do with my organization or lack thereof and everything to do with my klutziness.

From the learning rooms...more math, tracing, BOB, and Valentine's day. Isabel didn't want to trace last week, though, so I had her copy a Get Well Soon note to a little faraway friend and she LOVED that. "Mama! I can write in English!" So, more copying this week. I bought a little set of watercolors, the kind in the tubes, today and we're going to try them out. I've never used them before so I'm super stoked!

From the kitchen...bread is scheduled for tomorrow, though I should have done it today. Chicken soup was on the menu tonight, with fresh homemade broth, and we'll see more of that in the next few days. Runny noses have struck our house and it is sad. I've also got planned an attempt at gluten-free blackberry cream muffins (which are loosely based on raspberry cream muffins from some site I've forgotten now) and I'm looking for more recipes. I've been craving Mexican food, but even though Isabel doesn't usually eat the tortilla, I would feel very sad if everyone had a tortilla but her.

I am wearing...sweatpants from my brother's undergrad and an old youth group t-shirt. PJs, lest you think I wear this out to the store. I wrote that last week and it's true again today, except I have an old Hanes long-sleeve shirt instead. I did wash it. I'm not that disorganized I forget to do laundry. What I forget to do is put it away. Really, I "forget"...some days it's just easier to pull a clean shirt out of the laundry basket of clean, folded clothes than try to make an attempt to put the clothes away. I know in about 20 minutes I'm going to need another clean shirt, anyway, so why bother?

I am creating...the same things. The dress for Isabel was almost done until I realized I had sewn the bodice to the dress without finishing the bodice for the sleeves. So I had to take it aaallll apart. I'm also knitting up a little Yoda sweater for my egg lady. I'm almost done! I've been finding great comfort in knitting lately, though I do prefer sewing. (the link goes to the ravelry page for my project, but i haven't put any pictures up yet)

I am going...to try very hard to not be jealous of my aunt, who just bought chickens. We have been trying to convince the county chickens aren't any worse than dogs and to puhleeeze let us have a few to no avail when my aunt ups and buys some herself. There are supposed to be commas in that sentence but for the life of me I can't figure out where.

I am reading...a book called Skippy Dies. I just got it from the library today and haven't gotten too far into it. (my goodreads)

I am hoping...I can get Isabel's dress done tonight without sewing myself to something.

I am hearing...my husband reading The Trumpet of the Swan to the kiddos as they settle into bed.

Around the house...it's kind of a mess. Don't look.

One of my favorite things...clean hair. I always think I can go just one more day before anyone notices just how dirty it is and then I wash it and think why did I put this off it's so nice! Does that make me gross? Eh. My showers are usually limited to 2 minutes or less, which does not leave a lot of time for hair-washing.

A few plans for the rest of the week: getting David's phone fixed or exchanged, a new violin student this Wednesday, possibly attending the concert of a folk artist at the church of two of my students, the anticipated arrival of a book on order from Amazon, finally getting my bathroom fixed and useable! That SHOULD happen tomorrow. I'm praying it does.

Here is picture for thought I am sharing...

I'm waiting for One Thousand Gifts as well! I'm glad so many bloggers have mentioned it. I'm waiting for it at the library, however, and hope it doesn't take too long!

I'm quite the messy person, and I recently read What's a Disorganized Person to Do? And it has totally changed a ton in our house. It made me really evaluate what needed to be fixed (because even though I thought a system would work, it didn't work for us). I loved it!

Yay! If I had any hope for our library to get this book, I'd borrow it from them. Because I use swagbucks, I was able to order it essentially for free so it works out. :)

I'm not so much messy as I am owning too much stuff. I feel like there should be a way to simplify and pare down but I really do want and need the things I have. I just need to have a better way of organizing it. Then there's the time organization...I don't spend a lot of time on the computer or sitting on the couch, but I feel like I spend a lot of time being unproductive. Often the day slips past me and I'm sure there was time in there to scrub the baseboards but I didn't do it and they're dirty another day.

I'll have to look for your book! I'm not so good with systems, either. Unless it is the pile or Rubbermaid box system, where everything gets put in a pile or a box and shoved into the closet. I don't think that's a real system, though.

Hi Annie! I didn't know whether you would check back on my blog for the answer to yr question, so wanted to let you know that I use a gluten free baking mix by Pamela's Products as a flour substitute when baking. I then just reduce or eliminate the baking powder or soda.
Thanks for stopping by!
