Past My Bedtime Daybook

I should be asleep, but we just watched half of The King's Speech and now my brain is thinking too much to fall asleep quickly. I envy my husband because he is out like a light.

Here we go!

Outside my window...it's night. Obviously. :) Hot, humid, thunder-y night.

I am thinking...about children's church and whether I have too high expectations. And about speech therapy and what I liked about it. And about the Suzuki school I signed my kids up for tonight.

I am thankful for...the Suzuki school giving me a break on tuition for my kiddos because I can help teach classes as needed.

From the learning rooms...math! After a week, Isabel is STILL excited about math, which makes ME excited about math, so we're all excited! This week is learning about ones values (1, 11, 21, 2, 12, 22, etc.), tens values (10s, 20s, 30s, etc.), and using a hundred chart. Also, reading. And Suzuki practice! And possibly going to the library to get books on autumn, Labor Day, and other seasonal interests.

From the kitchen...Yogurt was supposed to be made tonight, but I forgot all about it so I will have to make it tomorrow. Also, bread. The rest, I'm not sure! I usually do meal planning Sunday or Monday morning and got out of sorts somehow this week. We have lots of things I need to figure out how to cook. Like bok choy! And mung and adzuki beans! And some other stuff I've forgotten. I do have some grapefruit that needs to be eaten, though. Anyone know any fabulous recipes for using up grapefruit? I'm the only one who likes them and I can't eat a whole grapefruit by myself.

I am wearing...my nightgown. It is bedtime.

I am creating...oh bah...the same stuff as last week. I didn't get any sewing done last week besides the bias binding for the neckline of the Sorbetto. I also need to make shoulder rests to fit my kiddos' violins, but I need to get some foam first.

I am going...to bed soon, I hope.

I am reading...Finished Snowdrops, Prophecy, and Gregor the Overlander. Now I'm out of new-to-me books to read and don't know what to pick up. Hopefully tomorrow brings a quick trip to the library for me.

I am hoping...So far this entry has been filled with hope. :) I am hoping this week is productive. And $1000 magically lands in my lap so we can buy the iron sleigh bed I so, so, so want. Because it's pretty. I like our bed now, it was the closest thing I could find to what I really wanted, but this sleigh bed is exactly what I've wanted. And it's on sale. But still $1000. And I think $500 is pricey for a bed, so it's not happening. But I can hope. :)

I am hearing...me typing. It's bedtime!

Around the house....it's quiet. And tidy. And those home maintenance projects still need to be completed. How does one go about washing the eaves of their roof? Soap and water? Pressure washing? Ours are all grimy from the rain and leaves and things and I'm afraid it's going to get all moldy and icky if we don't do something about it soon.

One of my favorite things...oh, that bed. And this movie! My parents recommended it to us nearly a year ago and it just now came up on our Netflix queue. I'm sorry we didn't put it at the top right away because it is really very good.

A few plans for the rest of the week: schoolwork, a parent meeting for the public school strings program I help teach, organization, a trip (or two) to the library, and maybe joining the local homeschool group at the park for a 'back to school' party. Maybe. It's still hot. :)

Here is picture for thought I am sharing: the 1/16 size violin I ordered for my son (for cheap, cheap, cheap at shar in their clearance or trade-in section)....he could not contain his joy when he saw what was in the box!!

So what are the kids learning at the Suzuki school?

No grapefruit recipes. Don't care for the stuff.

You can make yogurt? It's not some top secret recipe in a factory filled with old milk? You learn something new every day.

Cute picture!

They learn to play the violin via the Suzuki method, which is the best best best way to learn music. In my ever-so-humble opinion. :) It's based on ear-training and with the philosophy of creating a happy child.

I love grapefruit. :( I just can't eat so many! We got two more in our co-op basket this week and I still have two left over from two weeks ago. There has to be something!!

YOU CAN MAKE YOGURT! :) All it takes is some milk and some yogurt starter (aka a spoonful of already made yogurt). It's easy and delicious.

Thanks! I had to go back to the post and look at the picture because I forgot what it was. :)
